Description
Nippon Ichi Software released a new trailer for its upcoming “picture book”-style adventure title Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu. The three-minute animated trailer, which features the song “Kizuna no Rondo” performed by Akiko Shikata, is joined by new screenshots and details for various abilities players have in the game.

Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu follows a young girl called Mono. She learns that her sister is in an isolated facility for those afflicted by the “Shinigami Disease”, which turns those affected into a picture book, from which a monster eventually emerges. Mono forms a deal with legendary monster Melhendia, nicknamed Mel, which sees Mel protecting Mono as she dives into the picture books of humans afflicted by the disease.

Each book has its own gimmicks, with players able to use various abilities to overcome them, such as Mel’s abilities to eat certain monsters and obstacles. Mel’s Book Burn allows him to breathe fire and burn obstacles or light up his surroundings. Using it requires scraps of paper found in the book worlds. Meanwhile, Paper Fly allows him to float and lift objects, including Mono. Meanwhile, Mono is able to use Retouch, which lets her restore damaged objects and parts of the book worlds.

As Mono eats, he can change form and become more dangerous, which also impacts his abilities. In a larger version he can still use Book Burn, but is too heavy to use Paper Fly. In his largest state, he becomes a four-legged beast that, while powerful, is unable to use any abilities other than eating paper and is uncontrollable. This requires Mono to use Redo before her stamina runs out.
